Washington March 20 The House opened with brisk energy as appropriation bills were shelved left over. Dingley reported the tariff bill while Dalzell laid out rules for the debate to run March 25 to 31 with five minute amendments. Debates centered on job creation and rapid action as Cannon urged quick passage and the sun dry civil and general deficiency bills moved to final passage with sizable appropriations.
The House debated the tariff bill with Democrats applauding Bland as he argued against rushing the measure and recalled the extra session actions. McMillin and Wheeler pressed for immediate relief and tax reductions while Republicans led by Dingley defended the bill. The rule passed 179 to 132.
Henderson of Iowa from the rules committee presented the special order for four appropriation bills that failed to become laws last session. The previous question was ordered 107 to 95. The measure proceeded with sundry civil and general deficiency bills moving through with urgency.
