Washington dispatches reveal cautious optimism as Japanese forces press the Mukden operations. Reports cite successful envelopment attempts by Nowa and Kuroki's wings while central positions hold. Russian losses estimated at 12,000 wounded. Japanese losses about 30,000.
Describes ongoing heavy combat near Mukden on March 1 with Russian forces pushing west from Tyinuvanelte region. Japanese artillery battering, prisoners captured, and both sides suffering casualties. Reports specify Japanese and Russian deployments, with notable shellfire and efforts to hold positions around Phipshitad and Eltisingaase as forces maneuver between Sandepis and Shakhe.
