Oscar Youngs, formerly of Clifton house and currently in charge of the Grand hotel at Cedar Rapids Iowa, is reported to manage Highland park. City council debates first reading of two ordinances granting Charles E. Gregory and successors a 30 year gas franchise and related electric franchise. Measures set maximum gas rate at 81 cents per thousand, require $20,000 bond, specify street frontage signups, city safeguards, and 15 miles of mains to begin within two years with extensions possible. Public interest high as representatives from gas and electric companies attend.
Voters head to polls from 4 to 8 for Republican city offices in three wards with mayor city clerk city attorney city treasurer and two aldermen in wards one and two and one in ward three. Town election set for April 2 with Democratic caucus at New York house and multiple candidates for town collector and other posts.
