Saturday Freeport defeats Oshkosh 5 to 3 while the following day La Crosse holds first place with a 6 to 1 win. The report blames umpire Frederickson for blown calls, notes his history with Green Bay and Powers, and details key plays, errors, and runs across the two games with Oshkosh, Freeport, La Crosse, and other teams.
In a tense second inning duel, Oshkosh rallied in the sixth to pull ahead, then capitalized on miscues to close the game with Freeport rosters mocked by fans. Key plays by Schoonhoven Moriarity and Gwin set up a late surge as Freeport finally slipped away.
Yesterday Ives returned from Rock Island and chased Schaub and Ruby but could not secure them. Schaub joined an independent team as manager while Ruby signed with Springfield in the Three-Eye league. Gardner’s hurdling was a highlight of the game and Erickson received roses from fans at his first at bat.
La Crosse leads the league with a .703 mark, Freeport at .625, Green Bay .690, and Wausau up to fourth at .395 while Oshkosh sits fifth. The circuit saw many player moves, including Green Bay adding Stremmel and losing Cup py, Freeport losing Reid and Sullivan, and Eau Claire adding Asmussen who strengthens pitching as Malone fared well against Oshkosh. Oshkosh also acquired Mohr and Garlic left Wausau for Oshkosh. final note says Oshkosh jets Warner and the section ends with Concluded on Page 2.
