Municipal Council Proceedings May 7 1888 at Freeport

The May seventh regular session approved minutes from April meetings and referred petitions to committees. Petitions sought public park land purchase from Ballay, crossing at Van Buren, liquor license transfers, cemetery remains care, guttering at Galena-Chicago, and street improvements. Treasury and finance reports were received, with payrolls for fire department, police, and city staff totaling funds allocated.

City finances and sanitary conference actions in Freeport May 1888

The council approved payments totaling 2708 60 for labor and street work, ordered funds drawn, and heard reports from the treasurer, magistrate, sexton, fire marshal, weighmaster, and committees. Ald McCoy led finance actions. A Sanitary Conference in Springfield May 17–18 was authorized. Ald Buckley to represent Freeport. Committee reports and petitions on extending water mains and chamber use were acted on. various adoptions and adjournments followed.

Stoneman Hospital Ordinance Adopted in Freeport Meeting

City council approved establishment of The Stoneman Hospital in the Northerly end of Lot 10, Block 64, with a three member Committee on Stoneman Hospital to govern. Ald Buckley moved to adopt the ordinance after all aldermen voted aye. Additional actions included stone provision for Mr Dickes, a street committee report, and a plan for a Third Ward fire station. Mayor appointed Jerre Wright as special policeman to enforce dog tax. A committee to study power along the alley between Galena and Spring Streets was formed with Ald Piersol, Galloway, and Wright. The council adjourned.
