In Boise Idaho June 20 the state presented dramatic proof of the Goddard bomb used in Orchard plot. Judge Luther M. Goddard testified to the confession and discovery of the screw eye, the buried pine box, and the rusted vial. General Bulkeley Wells and Senator Borah produced exhibits sealed and later detonated in Denver, with defense objections overruled.
Mrs. Soward testified that Orchard lived at her San Francisco home during part of his operations against Fred Bradley and found incriminating items in his room. John TL. Stearns of Denver for Mutual Life Insurance backed Orchard’s claim of employment as an solicitor before he went to Canon City to bid ex-Governor Peabody and produced supporting letters.
