A series of tornadoes struck central Illinois, Indiana, and Nebraska, killing several and injuring many. In Lincoln Logan County, Illinois a cyclone devastated the State Institution for the Feeble Minded and a farm barn, with 26 people taking shelter inside. four died, others wounded, and property losses mounted toward ten thousand dollars. Indiana reports extensive farm and timber damage, with barns destroyed and telegraph lines down. Nebraska storms damaged Lincoln and nearby towns with roofs torn off and homes wrecked, while Missouri and Iowa also endured powerful winds and structural damage. Ambulances searched for victims as communities faced widespread destruction.
Charles W Spalding ex-president of Globe Savings bank and ex-treasurer of the state university was acquitted in Chicago of embezzling 7000 in Pittsfield School district bonds. The verdict hinged on lack of criminal intent despite 27 indictments still pending.
Chicago June 19 James Harrington the bridge tender testified the accident on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul line near the river was caused by bridge lights arrangement a hexagon with red and white halves. A cyclone swept villages near Paris yesterday during a fair at Agneri. Coignet's fireworks factory roof blew off, a chimney fell, boiler exploded, killing several and injuring fifteen. Five are reported dead in a cafe. Many structures were demolished in all directions.
Altoona June 19. The miners convention resolved to affiliate with a national labor organisation. The group claims to represent 26,000 miners.
