Captain Bonnard of the DeKalb Salvation Army attracts large crowds by nightly open-air meetings on Sycamore streets. Mayor Brown bans street assemblies, ordering arrests if repeated. Officers and three recruits were jailed briefly and released on bail. A Saturday trial will decide if the main street can be blocked for drumming and singing or if mayoral orders prevail.
A parade of personal notices lists residents and visitors. Mrs S E Brown of Forreston arrives, F R Rice returns from Chicago, Miss Esther Dana spends the day in Chicago, BE Perry Brown returns from Sioux City, Chas Schaefer and wife visit Chicago, Elias Perkins in Madison on business, Miss Laura Steffen returns from Harlem, Mrs J E Frisbie travels to Rockford, Miss Marie L Mayer to spend Sunday with Rockford friends, Misses Katherine Buss and Daisy Reeder of Lena here, Miss Lillian Heas visiting J Rinehart in Mt Morris, W H Wagner travels to Utica for German editors meeting, Mrs Reiger and daughter Bessie and Miss Baumgarten return from Dixon, Mrs White and daughter Alice White of Chicago guests, Dr W S Caldwell home from Columbus Ohio for American Medical society meeting, Mrs Anna Farrar returns to Chicago after visiting, accompanied by Misses Anna and Emma Metz.
At daybreak 4,500 men under Lawton Wheaton and Overshine advanced from San Pedro Macau and swept the country between Manila Bay and Baylake, reaching near Paranaque by noon. American losses were two officers killed and twenty-one soldiers wounded, while rebels left fifty dead in the trenches.
In Kansas City on June 10 special session adjourned with officer salaries raised. Herd consul 5060, head clerk 4500, head banker 2600, board of directors 15 a day, board auditors 12 a day, law committees 2. Resolutions backed Memorial Day on the third Sunday in June and supported union labor. Board granted discretion on death claim matters after death by own action.
Special dispatch from Wasuvietos June 10 cites Col. Henry Lippencott of Manila reporting June engagements. It lists 6 officer and 71 enlisted killed. 2 officers and 114 privates died of wounds. 8 officers and 485 privates wounded. total June casualties 596, total since outbreak 1,029.
Freeport looks favorable as a potential holder of the Western association franchise left by Dubuque. Rockford Star notes Freeport’s strong weekday crowds and remarkable Sunday patronage, with a history of semi pro teams. Manager H B Smith in Freeport is trusted and could lead a successful season. Fred Haines of the Rockford club plans a conference today to discuss the transfer and schedule chances.
A county gathering at the courthouse formed the County Organization Association of Domestic Science. Mrs. G. W. Shippy of Weedda ma was named temporary chairwoman. Officers elected include Assistant Mrs. G. W. Slip, Vice President Mrs. Le Confer, Secretary Miss Blakeway, Treasurer Miss Swanzey. An advertisement notes Elis dyes.
Sophia Entmeier Hauptof, wife of August Entmeier, died at 7 30 this morning at her Homer street home from a combination of lung and brain fevers. Born August 11 1861 in Lieppe Detmold she married August Entmeier in 1883 and they moved to this city. She was not a member of St Johns church and leaves six children Paulina Fred Minnie Willie Carl and Edward, one sister Mrs Conrad Entmeier of this city and two brothers in Germany. Funeral will be Monday afternoon.
Jacob Kline leads a monster petition to Washington protesting the condemnation of his property for a post office. He argues other suitable sites are for sale and urges the government to pause. Few signers aside from signed remonstrances. Aaron Wolf returned home critically ill after extended illness in Chicago. Jake Sanderson and Harry McCullough listed as ill.
Prominent Hannibal resident J Lilly recounts near death from typhoid that worsened into pneumonia. He credits Dr King’s New Discovery, using a single bottle then continued use to regain health. The medicine advertised as best for lung troubles with trial bottles at Mommert Burrell’s drug store.

Rockford Insurance of Rockford was sold to The American Insurance Company of Newark. The American will open a western department in Rockford led by Charles E. Sheldon as western manager. Agency superintendent P. L. Hoadley will be present in Rockford when the reinsurance takes effect at noon Monday. The sale includes the Rockford agency plant and goodwill, with over 2,000 agents. The reinsurance discounts exceed 60 percent, with Rockford’s June 1 account estimated between $850,000 and $875,000. The American of Newark has capital $600,000 and assets of $3,001,688 with net surplus of $1,816,872.

A Freeport ball team fields a strong Illinois Central Chicago office contingent at Taylor's Park this afternoon for a game. The same teams meet again tomorrow, and on Monday the home team will face Dixon College nine in Dixon. Bucklen's Arnica Salve advertised as a cure for eruptions, sores, boils, burns, and other conditions, sold by Emmert & Burrell.
