Washington June 7. A deed recorded yesterday shows Bishop John B Thurst of the Methodist Episcopal church transferred his Massachusetts Avenue home to his wife Elia Root Hurst through an intermediary. The transfer is regarded as preliminary to a possible legal separation drawing comment from local residents.
Washington reports President Schurman of the Philippine Commission urged more liberal concessions to Filipinos to end the insurrection, with Hay reviewing the stance. Otis to press military action through the rainy season. Congress authority unclear. Cable to Cebu opens for business as Manila reports losses and heat casualties. Mary Berman, a one year old girl in New Haven, is injured and deranged after Edward Sedow and Karl Sedow assaulted her. They allegedly restrained her and pressed a red hot iron to her back, leaving three long brands and lifelong scarring. The incident occurred as she walked home from school near Sedow's house.

In Icelandic waters a cork buoy found May 14 carried a note from Andree Strindberg and Frenckel. It states the buoy was thrown July 11, 1897, at 10 55 p m Greenwich time from 82 north 25 east, altitude 600 meters, with all well. The balloon had traveled seven hours fifty minutes.

Mrs Poor Buffalo Belle Perkins, a 40 year old white woman, has been elected medicine man of the Wiowa Indians after her husband, the previous holder, died. She has lived among the Kiowas for 80 years and is the first white woman to hold the post. The role includes supplying the tribe with news from heaven.
A Tampico merchant asserts Foley's Kidney Cure cured his 27 year kidney disease and leaves him feeling ten years younger. The ad also notes certificates of medical proof and features a Spanish author who wrote five novels with unusual constraints. Banner Salve advertised for skin ailments at 25c with a world famous prescription.
