Whiteside capitalists inspect Scales Mound lead mines

A party of five from Whiteside county returned from Scales Mound after a two day inspection of extensive lead mines in Daviess county. Judge F D Ramsey and Charles Bent Sr of Sterling joined the group. They secured ore samples and began negotiations with the Illinois Central for a spur from their line to the mine site to haul machinery and galena to market. The investors plan to enter mining as a venture alongside their regular duties.
