Foreigners Attacked by Boxers at Paoting Fu

French consulate reports from Paoting Fu that 30 foreigners including six women and a child were fleeing to Tien Tsin by boat when attacked by more than 700 Boxers armed with rifles and spears. Many were wounded four killed and the fate of the rest is unknown.

Senate convened and Morgan chairing the inter oceanic canal committee urged the Hepburn Nicaragua canal bill be set as a special order for Monday Dec 10, next session's second Monday. The deficiency bill also resumed with an amendment to reimburse Maritime Canal Co of Nicaragua $13 568 for Ludlow commission survey expenditures. The bill passed after minor amendments.

Lockjaw from a scratch in Janesville

Ten days after a minor scratch on his right little finger Michael Mulquin died of lockjaw in Janesville Wisconsin. The family believes a poisonous substance secreted in the wound caused the fatal result. Mulquin, 60, leaves a wife and six children. He was a well known citizen.
