Colonel Robert G. Ingersoll died at his summer home in Cobb's Ferry New York from apoplexy this afternoon. He had felt slightly indisposed since arriving two days earlier but nothing serious was expected. His wife and two daughters were with him. He was famed for his lecture The Liberty of Man Woman and Child and was regarded as one of the century's most eloquent orators with worldwide admirers.

On Shiloh battlefield Cuarranoona Tennessee July 20 today Colonel Culver the Illinois monument contractor completed the placing of four bronze statues on the Illinois monument on Missionary Ridge. Tomorrow a marker will be placed near Craver's house Lookout Mountain to mark the position of the Illinois regiment and another on Missionary Ridge near Bragg's tower. This completes the Illinois park commission work. Culver holds the contract for monuments and markers on Shiloh battlefield. He will begin work here within sixty days with material already shipped. The contract price is 45000.
