Wage increase agreed at American Tin Plate mills
Chicago July 15 after long talks between American Tin Plate officials and Amalgamated Association delegates an 15 percent wage rise was granted for 30 000 tin and iron workers. Mills had closed since June 30 over the wage dispute and will reopen Monday benefiting about 50 000 workers including 20 000 others affected by the plant shutdown. The company initially offered 11 percent while the union asked for 20 percent. a 15 percent compromise over 1898 wages was approved.
