Inspector Byrnes arrested Edward Unger a 22 Ridge Street saloon keeper on charges of murder and robbery in a trunk case. The victim is believed to be August Boltz who stayed with Unger about three weeks. Blood found at Unger's apartments and a bloodstained knife supported the claim. Witness Henry Bense said the trunk was left at his Brooklyn saloon by an unknown man and picked up by an express wagon. Unger’s son Sidward Unger Jr aided in the case and Bohle the other man involved fled with the trunk.
Man alias John J Vallatin Parker arraigned in Mianon Ind for embezzlement and linked to a counterfeiting scheme. He waives examination, case bound to circuit court, jailed awaiting trial. His wife seeks annulment amid Parker’s accusations involving his father-in-law J D Beatty. Beatty calls the allegations absurd.
Threats against Arch bishop Corrigan surge after McGlynn turmoil. A package addressed to the archbishop contained bon bons and a note from a physician. the doctor denied sending it. Bon bons were sent to a chemist for analysis amid silence from palace inmates. The McGlynn dispute looms over St Stephen's church gathering.

District No 40 of the Knights of Labor backs the action. boats fail to unload as pilots and tug crews join the walkout. Police flood Cooper Union when about 6,000 gather to protest Pinkerton violence and demand government protection and speedy trials for those responsible.
Peter Nichols, locked out to a seven month strike, mortgaged his property to O M Johnson for 50. Johnson returns to seize goods. Mrs Nichols battles him with a hatch, suffers a severe head wound as the dispute over furniture and debt escalates. Nichols had borrowed after illness and a long wage stoppage. Johnson had attempted to collect by writ, furniture removal delayed due to Mrs Nichols condition.
In Helena Montana January 38 miners of Gregory Mining Co took four stockholders into custody as the works were shut down over finances. Bellyman and Child released to seek back wages payment. The town remains peaceful with no disorder as efforts continue to resolve the matter.
