Train Explosion Wrecks Locomotive and Cars Near Havwthorne

A Louisville and Nashville passenger train bound south from Adams to Adams plowed into trouble east of Havwthorne Indiana when the boiler exploded. The engine and most of the train were wrecked, the engineer and a fireman killed, passengers injured, and salvage crews rushed from nearby towns as authorities investigated the disaster. The wreck occurred about 25 miles west of the city, with debris scattered along the embankment and a derailment causing lengthy delays. The explosion echoed three miles, drawing witnesses and officials to the scene.
