Freeport Woman's Club Hears Japan Literature Program
The Freeport Woman's Club met Saturday afternoon in the First Presbyterian church lecture room. A letter urged support for a bill to fine and imprison anyone who leads astray children or young girls. The program featured Japan literature with D B Breed on music, W Sanford on a Japan literature paper, and readings from Milford's Tales of Old Japan. A party of notes closed the meeting with criticism of Japanese poetry. Also heard was the larceny suit of Hazel Chapman versus Mrs Victor Sterling, with State's Attorney Burrell prosecuting and a Chicago lawyer for Mrs Sterling. Chapman admitted her surname was not Chapman before arriving in Freeport four years ago.

Deserted husband Schemerhorn brought back to Illinois
Sheriff J B McCool returned from Atlanta with F J Schemerhorn in custody on a charge of wife abandonment. He had fled about a year and a half ago amid links to a Chicago branch of a correspondence school. Georgia officials detained him until Stephenson county authorities arrived. Schemerhorn, an ex Illinois Central railroad engineer, expressed reluctance to return. He was bound over in $1000 bond awaiting the March term after a hearing before Justice Goddard.

Long illness ends for Mrs Edward L Stewart in Winslow
Mrs Maude Taft Stewart of Winslow dies after a long illness of bowel consumption. Born March 29 1874 in Owego township she leaves a sixteen month old son Orville Edward Stewart and a grieving husband.
