Washington Jan 14 The senate made little progress on the Hawaiian annexation treaty with several speeches declared preliminary. McGilsey’s son was burned at the stake near Maud by a white mob charging him with murder. A 9 year old witness testified the youth was not among the killers. The atrocity, blamed largely on whites, involved two drunk Indian youths. a line of saloons marks the Seminole reservation boundary to Oklahoma where whites sell whisky.
Henry Collier Mix and his bride stay with his brother in law in Chicago as word arrives from Cambridge that Mrs. Mix was reportedly married to Frank Farwell. The couple claim the Farwell union was a mock marriage and say the Harvard student may annul the arrangement, with a telegram indicating Farwell might abandon the alleged wife.
Senora Inez Ponce de Roque, wife of insurgent colonel Ponce de Roque, arrives on the Senaca. Exiled from Cuba by General Blanco, she was arrested after a letter to her husband was intercepted. She spent seventeen months in Mantanzas prison, mostly incommunicado.

The court held the law void for ambiguity and its conflict with the fifteenth amendment.
