Wreck on Lehigh Valley Trains Kills Eighteen

West Dunellen New Jersey January 10 The Lehigh Valley wreck in a double track collision between a local and an excursion train killed thirteen and left many injured. Officials cite a freight wreck at Bound Brook earlier that day and mistaken train orders as the causes. The disaster near West Dunellen, three miles from Bound Brook, left 400 passengers in panic and many severely injured with several deaths reported overnight.

Horrible Butchery of Passengers in Shamokia Car

A collision on the Shamokia excursion train saw engineer James Prendergast and fireman George Cheshire aboard the first engine. As the local approached on a curve the air was filled with shrieks and sparks. Passengers, startled, tried to escape but were knocked unconscious or killed as the two engines collided and the local engine somersaulted.

He drank muriatic acid and jumped from Milwaukee and St Paul bridge into shallow water where he appeared to try to drown himself. Charles Johnson a 20 year old freight house worker and ex soldier of Porto Rico pulled Phillips from the river and he is likely to die.

Prominent Bridgeport Man Ellet Beesley Missing

Ellet Beesley a leading Bridgeport business man vanished after boarding a morning train to Olney Tuesday. Police and friends until now have found no trace. Wife distraught. Beesley is about 40, 6 foot 8 inches tall, black hair and mustache, around 200 pounds.
