Fire destroys smoke house near Schraum residence
At 5 30 this morning a fire was discovered in the smoke house adjoining John Schraum's residence on upper Stephenson street. The department rushed to the scene and saved the residence, but the smoke house was reduced to ashes.

Thursday Afternoon Charity Tea Inspires Local Mothers
A Freeport Presbyterian church event transformed the usual tea scene into a practical relief project for needy mothers. Young women led by Florence Knowlton organized garment making, music, and a coffee tea, inviting overworked mothers to attend in warm rooms where they could learn child care tips from Dr. Soule. Garments are finished at home or sold to families at low cost, with the event funded by the society and supported by volunteers including Miss Burbank, Miss Ferry, and Miss Demorest.
