Bank Bombing Ends in Blood and Ruins in Philadelphia

Dead man identified as Nello Steele in bank bombing case

The bomb thrower was identified as Nello Steele of Garner Ta. He slept at the Grant Trouse on the Tenderloin fringe. Detectives found fuse, caps, a revolver, and cartridges in his room. A loan attempt and a chase at Equitable Trust followed, with Steele described as a former foreman and anarchist socialist. His widow lives in Chicago and he had a turbulent mobility across several states.

Three Drown In White River Ice Near Burkington

In Racine Wisconsin on January 7 three people drowned on the White River near Burkington. William Schumann aged 18 and two children of Mr and Mrs A Gerlenn, a seven year old boy and a five year old girl, were skating when the boy broke through. The others rushed to help and the ice collapsed, trapping all three before rescuers could reach them.
