A correspondent urges selecting fair committees from nonresident members to reduce bias. The idea is impractical due to attendance and notification needs, so the society should instead number entries on admission cards to conceal ownership while keeping a cross reference for prize awards. This method, already used by Mastern Societies, prevents bias and supports fair judging.
Albany reports a massive Hudson flood causing two million dollars in damage. Water surged to three feet above all previous records flooding lower Broadway and streets from the Exchange to Delevan House. Fire broke out in several districts. boats and bucket brigades fought flames as authorities organized relief for sufferers.
The Springfield Chi vazo Tribune note says Senator Juan introduced a redistricting bill in the Senate on Saturday morning. It was referred to a committee chaired by him. A Border-ruffian caucus later adopted a similarly aimed bill, now to be moved early this week under party whip influence.

J O Oxrie an Assistant Clerk in the State Assembly died very suddenly Saturday evening from congestion of the lungs. He was at his post Friday and had been confined only two hours. The illness is reported to be prevailing to some extent in Springfield.
Chinese agar Cane Seed and Tus seed are in high demand this season with careful buying urged. Fraudulent vendors are already circulating, selling counterfeit seed for sugar cane, prompting buyers to verify sources and avoid losses.

The Burdell inquest yielded few dramatic moments with Burdell's ledger showing a October 28 entry made in his own handwriting and corroborated by a director of the Artizans Dirk. Mr Farrell testified that night he saw a shout and a man identified as Heckel. the scene followed a cry of murder near Burdell's house. Wasiisaiox February 10.
