A mob of enslaved men and women tied a white turpentine still manager to a stake in Ewing between Fargo and St. George Valdosta Georgia reports say he barricaded himself and fired killing five men and two women and wounding several others the incident occurred last night according to a special dispatch.
On the Wabash railroad at Forty-seventh street a freight train backed down on six section hands today. Two men were killed and the others seriously injured.
Chicago area forecast for tonight and Sunday calls for generally fair skies with colder conditions, especially in the northern region tonight. Temperatures are expected to dip further overnight and remain cool into Sunday.
Chicago markets close with grains showing May wheat at 8 7/16, May corn 44 1/4, May oats 31 3/4, and January pork 83 13 75, lard 7 45, ribs 7 17. Mrs Catharine Kachelhoffer died at 8 am at about three miles east of the city in Silver Creek township after a year with paralysis and a rapid decline following pneumonia. Born in 1829 in Baden Germany she immigrated with her parents in 1882 and lived in New York Illinois and Silver Creek. Survived by three children Victor Rose and Mrs Frank Bangasser, four brothers and one sister, with funeral arrangements pending likely from the family residence Tuesday morning.
Large crowd gathered for the funeral of the late Joseph Koenig this morning. Rev. N Wunderlich of the Oak Street Church conducted the services. Pallbearers named were Andrew Krieg Imon Screiber Hermann Korf Philip Fosselmann P F Barber and Samuel Grumbine.

John Fizer of Savanna recounts being found unconscious near Freeport after spraining an ankle, then says he was chloroformed and robbed of $20 by several men who carried him to a point near Freeport. He was brought to Rockford by his brother in law and told the police his story.

A Chicago report states John T. Powers will resign as president of the Wisconsin Association of Professional Baseball Clubs at the next league meeting. Louis Biersach of Freeport is named as his successor, though he says he will not accept the post if offered. An eastbound Chicago and Northwestern engine broke down near Rockford this morning after a side rod fractured. Fireman Nordberg of Chicago is gravely ill in a Rockford hospital, a boiler hole from a flying pin caused by the incident. Engineer Reinsberger of West Chicago escaped with minor burns. another engine tows the train to Chicago.
