Hand mined coal 33 1 3 cents per gross ton loaders drillers and shooters 20 cents per ton loaders 12 1 2 cents. machine mining unchanged. Wage date fixed December 1, 1896, with future parity for lines along the Chicago Peoria and St Louis railroad between Springfield and Petersburg.

Kaukauna Wisconsin December 23 Jonas Metoxen a Chicago full back who played Saturday is an Oneida Indian from near the Oneida reservation. He is among five or six Oneidas pursuing college education at the Hampton and Carlisle Indian schools. Also noted is a separate Birmingham lynching story about Joe James a colored man who was hanged in Woodstock after an attempted assault on a 17 year old girl on her way to school.
