Policyholders Battle for Control of Major Life Companies
New York voting nears in the New York Life and Mutual Life elections to decide control of assets valued at about 970 million dollars. Policyholders clash with wealthy backers after years of reform laws. The International Policyholders committee funds a massive campaign with hundreds of thousands in postage and circulars, while lawyers and former officials lend free services. Estimates put total votes cast between 600,000 and 700,000 as ballots are opened and counted.
