Operators and miners clashed over wage terms after a conference in Pittsburg. Miners rejected all arbitration plans and insisted on a 69-cent rate with future arbitrator-set adjustments. Ratchford faced criticism for delays and alleged misstatements while Dolan reported continued unrest and pay-day discharges at Oak Hill mines.
Pittsburg Aug 25 The four week old miners strike camp at Sandy Creek was broken up and seventy men sent home by miners officials as the mine is tightly closed and strikers back higher wages. At Turtle Creek, rumors circulated that Oak Hill mines superintendent De Armit paid Italian strikers to return to work, a claim cited by strikers as evidence of company weakness. May affect Doore vs New York and Cleveland Gas Coal Co wages dispute.
Pittsburg aug 25 in response to a county wide call leaders of about fifty unions gathered at Knights of Labor hall to consider a big strike. National miners officers Ratchford and Pearce postponed departure to discuss strike actions and explain the reasons behind them. The meeting endorsed officials actions and adopted resolutions condemning courts and sheriffs for protecting armed assassins and issuing injunctions, urging a general work suspension if courts persist in defying constitutional rights.
Indianapolis workers reject the St. Louis labor meeting for a railroad strike to aid miners. They say they would help strikers but cannot strike due to existing contracts with multiple railroad lines.
In Terre Haute on August 25 Eugene V. Debs told reporters the president should issue a proclamation ordering operators to grant miners living wages within 48 hours or have their mines seized and run by the government in the people's interest, claiming this would settle the matter at once.

The Buffalo visit Aug 25 featured a spontaneous crowds, police and soldiers clearing streets from station to Niagara hotel and Elliott club, where President McKinley with Mrs McKinley and Gov Black attended a banquet for Columbia Post of Chicago. Senator Hanna arrived late as 6:45 p.m.
Diedrich Bicknese brother in law of Adolph Luetgert accused of murder created a scene in the jail denouncing Luetgert and declaring him the killer. The trial continues as both sides push technicalities, with the state dismissing veniremen to secure a new panel.
League games across Brooklyn Washington Philadelphia and Baltimore produced varied outcomes with several shutouts wins and late game darkness. Three men with revolvers robbed the Durango post office. One was captured by neighbors but released by his pals at gunpoint. The trio then robbed a store at Asbury and held up five farmers on the highway. About $200 taken. Sheriff and posse with bloodhounds pursue.
