The wind proved challenging and the final mile mark stood at 2:08 with a quarter-second improvement over the previous record held by John R. Gentry.
Filemaker the celebrated high jumper horse died in Galveston this week at 14 years old. Standing 17 hands 3 inches, he vaulted seven feet seven inches for a world record, and seven feet three inches with ease. Only rival Rosebery was killed attempting the feat. He came with owner Mme.
