The national executive board of the United Mine Workers adjourned after calling a labor conference in St Louis on Aug 30 to decide on the strike. They refuse to meet Pittsburg operators alone and want a nationwide arbitration with all operators in Ohio Indiana Illinois West Virginia and Pennsylvania participating. The move is supported by Gompers and Sovereign and aims to broaden action across organized labor while authorities forecast further arrests at strikers camps amid ongoing conflict over injunctions and supply disruptions.
Superintendent De Armit says miners may run all mines with every dollar of capital if needed. Secret strike activity continues among workers as 175 men leave Camp Isolation at Plum Creek and march toward Unity. They are halted at Plum Creek by deputies after the injunction is read, then proceed toward Center two miles beyond the line.
