Chicago Aug 12 Irish League Convention opened with loyalist cheers as delegates debated unity under Parnell amid pro and anti Gladstone factions. William O Brien urged restraint while Davitt and Sullivan maneuvered committees amid protests, with dispatches from America pledging support and calls for Irish liberty.
The Democratic state convention met in Memorial hall with full delegation. H J Wintoy chaired. M Layton was secretary. Speakers praised the party's fortunes, attacked the legislature, and endorsed a platform opposing taxes, supporting silver and gold as money bases, and backing labor arbitration. Several nominations followed including McBride for Supreme Court, Follett for judge, and Cruflesbank for high court clerk, with adjournment after ballots and tributes to deceased leaders.
Democrats and Greenbackers met in convention to form a fusion state ticket led by Gov. Von Grovaman Civorge Yaplo and A Curry for lieutenant governor. The Missouri Democratic state convention met in exposition hall on Wednesday with temporary chairmen and later ALM Dockery named permanent chairman. Senator Vast praised the Democracy act while criticizing Congress tariff reforms, and Dockery expressed confidence in Democratic leaders placing offices in their hands. Nomination for judge of the supreme court proceeded as the session adjourned.
