The C O D D STORE advertises the largest and cheapest stock in the state with seasonal fruits by quart can or carload. Melons arrive twice weekly. apples sold by peck barrel or carload. Coffee roasted in-house. sugars bought by the cwt. fish and canned goods in full supply. Candy and nuts stocked. delivery offered free across the city.
A violent August electrical storm struck Chicago and suburbs causing serious injuries from lightning. A telegraph office on Center and Sixteenth burned after melting gear, a messenger boy flew through a door, and an operator was paralyzed. Other bolts felled trees, damaged buildings, and injured workers in Jefferson, North Manston, and Crawford County.
