Dr. Goldwin Smith Chronology and Life Summary

Dr. Goldwin Smith, born August 13, 1823, English by birth, married in Canada for nearly four decades. Educated at Eton and Oxford, he lectured in the United States in 1864, earned an honorary Ll. D. from Brown, and wrote on England America relations and the Civil War. He taught at Cornell until 1871, then joined the University of Toronto senate and has lived at The Grange, Toronto, for about forty years devoted to literature, journalism, philanthropy, and citizenship.

China Missionary Arrival Sparks Oakdale Gathering

A China missionary linked to a former bishop is due in Oakdale for a large church event at United Evangelical Church. The program lists a full day of worship activities from 6:45 am family prayers to an evangelistic service, with strict rules for conduct and grounds use.

Methodists At Lena Plan Ten Day Camp Meeting

Freeport district Methodist Episcopal members now linked with Rockford district meet at Lena for an annual camp meeting running ten days starting Thursday.
