In Springfield Illinois on August 3 three hundred Seventh regiment soldiers clashed with citizens. The troops had about thirty kegs of beer behind the Relsch brewery. A provost guard of sixty pursued distraught citizens toward Camp Lincoln. Heat felled three soldiers and a citizen suffered a bayonet wound to the eye in the ensuing mêlée.
