General Otis reports casualties from Sunday's fight with killed including Col. John M. Stotsenberg and Lt. L. E. Sisson, plus several sergeants and privates across Nebraska and other units. Wounded include multiple privates with varying injuries. Area reports from Manila theater note General Lawton advancing toward Norzagaray and Hale’s brigade moving along the Rio Grande with considerable enemy loss and 850 prisoners captured.

Fatal Explosion Rocks Fleets Chemical Works

In Punapetruta Pennsylvania two men were killed outright and two are missing after benzine explosions at the Fleets' chemical works. A woman died, twenty others were injured, and the factory is wrecked with debris and shattered windows over a wide area. Two bodies recovered, one burned, another blown through the roof. Over a block of buildings sustained damage and hospitals received a dozen injured.

Death by self destruction at Jefferson township home

Conrad Meyers, about eighty, long an area settler near Loran village in Jefferson township, hanged himself last night using a rope made from handkerchiefs attached to a bed post. Found at 9 o clock, he had been nearly blind since youth after quack medicine ruined his sight. Coroner Currier notified.

Brave Major Bell Led Cavalry At Malolos

Major James M. Bell of the Fourth United States Cavalry is praised for his Civil War and Philippine campaigns. Records show he began as a lieutenant in 1862 and earned brevets for the Wilderness and Ream s Station. He is well known in Freeport with relatives nearby and recently returned from Cuba wounded. The April dispatch notes his ties to Washington and a cabinet discussion of the Coughlan case as Captain nears retirement.

Freeport Board of Trade lists wheat May July prices and hogs July and May futures with varied bid/ask ranges. Chicago receipts include 84 cars wheat, 312 corn, 830 total. Northwestern shows Minneapolis and Duluth relate to car counts. primary receipts compare with year ago totals for wheat and corn.

Chicago woman contests Horace Tarbox estate in Illinois court

In Hall County Nebraska probate court Mrs Dra Hayes of Chicago and other children contest the 1894 will of Horace Tarbox. The will gave nearly all property to his second wife Mrs Horace Tarbox and her son Lee Scrambling. Estate includes Freeport Illinois and property in Grand Island Nebraska and Gainesville Florida worth 150 000. Tarbox over 80 at will time. Proceedings will take at least a week with skilled lawyers on both sides. A capsule note mentions a new air tight coffee can feature for T and T brand.
