Chicago April 4 The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern strike ends as freight traffic resumes. Officials claim no concessions were made though unions dispute details. About sixty strikers join others in relaying cars and clearing yards at Forty-first Street crossing. Wage losses and days idle are tallied, with estimates of total wages lost reaching millions across workers and associated industries.
The house committee closed its examination with Frederick S. Turner, Knights of Labor general secretary, confirming prior Gould-Powderly interview details. He described union assemblies from ten to 3,000 members, and said the General committee could approve or disapprove strikes, denying Missouri Pacific approval. He supported arbitration as a fixed tribunal and favored compulsory arbitration, while acknowledging the need for work at fair wages.
The text discusses creating an executive Department of Labor and Commerce to study and regulate labor and arbitration. It advocates central control of arbitration, external navigation, and mercantile shipping, shifting these from the treasury to the new department, with a public minister at its head.

Robert Fowler was executed for the brutal murder of Ming Burnett in Mouga Nsitatap Kentucky. Burnett, who married her grandmother Mrs Mayers, worked on the Meyurs farm and spurned Fowler’s efforts to win her. After marriage to a widow named Stanley, Fowler plotted anew but was rejected and the crime followed.
On a river crossing near town, Prod Hillman, his wife, a two year old boy, and an 18 month old girl drowned when a leaking small boat swamped. The river was dragged and the bodies of the mother and the little boy were recovered by 1 PM.
Edensboro in Grant county braced for conflict after Malcolm Wood ousted by Manly Dean over unpaid rent. Wood, with a large force, relocated the house to a new land, half the town guarding the original site and others preparing to move it back as Sheriff Milhards mobilizes a large posse to enforce orders.
A fine yearly colt owned by W. A. Whitrsnos of Charleston performed a remarkable feat Friday when a train on the Narrow Gauge line began to pull away. The colt was discovered on the track as the train started, and the creature apparently saved itself by leaping clear, injuring only its brain.
