Laid Low by Death A Northwest Business Giant Dies

Alexander Mitchell president of the Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul Railway and the richest man in the northwest died at the Hoffman house in New York City of acute pneumonia at age 70. He built the great lakes trade network and the railway arms, with an estimated fortune of $20,000,000. Remainders will be taken to Milwaukee for burial at Forest Home Cemetery. His career rose with Milwaukee’s early rail expansion and the first president of CM&StP. His family and illness details are noted as the news spread.
