EXPERT TESTIMONY ON QUAY LOANS AND BANK ASSETS

Ex expert accountant Meyer Goldsmith testified at the Quay trial, reviewing bank books. He said Commonwealth deposits from April 30 to October 31, 1897 exceeded 500,000. Loans to Senator Quay during that period totaled 186,000, and stock purchases for him reached 148,000. Quay paid no interest on loans but received over 23,000 in interest on state funds, with Haywood and McKee receiving the balance.
