TESTIM Geneseo March 4 1898 letters praise Dr. M R Moses for fitting glasses that relieved headaches and improved reading. James L Woodruff DNIALS and Esther Slack attest to eye improvements and gratitude, urging others with defective eyesight to consult him.
In Joliet Illinois on September 12 1896 a resident named B Nusbaum reports suffering from catarrh and progressing deafness for about ten years. After seeking multiple doctors and a three month course by Dr J M Moses the patient claims complete recovery and restoration of hearing.
A Morais Illionois resident recalls receiving two pairs of spectacles fitted by Dr M R Moses of Chicago about three years ago after becoming totally blind in one eye and facing a cataract in the other The note ends abruptly with a stray unreadable fragment indicating the patient’s gratitude and a medical triumph in the late 19th century.
In Pana Illinois January 13 1891 a letter lauds Dr M R Moses for restoring vision and correcting cross eyes. The writer notes his wife suffered blindness for years yet was made able to read and recognize people at ten feet. Other testimonials praise his skill and full cure of granulated eyelids.
Thomas McAllister writes from Wooplestook dated September 16, 1893, praising Dr Moses for curing his thirty year history of sick headaches after receiving glasses on August 10, 1892, noting he had not suffered another headache since.
Washington April 16 The senate finance committee held an all day session to gather tariff suggestions. Quay urged higher duties to shield US carpets and matting from China and Japan while Perkins pressed for higher rates on California fruit and beets. Sewell pushed for broad changes across New Jersey industries and favored a 50 percent ad valorem on silk. Western lawmakers urged gypsum and cattle measures, and Elkins Wellington supported the coal rate. The White House indicated Knapp will likely be renominated as consul general to Montreal.
In Washington the Senate debated the Indian appropriation bill and failed to secure an arbitration treaty agreement. West denounced abolishing Indian schools, praising Jesuit schools as the only effective educators for Indians and expressing support for Catholic over native religious schooling.

Holman of Indiana improves after ten days of stomach trouble and can eat solid food though weak. no immediate return to duties at the Capitol expected.
