An 19th or early 20th century advertisement touts concentrated syrup, rheumatic cure, tolu tar and wild cherry cough remedy, wizard liniment for injuries, children's cough syrup, rose dream for skin roughness, carbolic salve for wounds and burns, antiseptic healing ointment for pimples and skin issues, and sure corn cure. Sold only by a local firm.
Special from Sanmida Wasumeron April 14 reports the Berlin treaty three powers agree on Samoan commission instructions. The San Francisco departure date is the 25th for Apia. The commission will investigate impartially on arrival and report to governments. It cannot alter the Berlin treaty but may make recommendations. Secretary Alger arrives Fort Monroe en route to Washington. US consuls ordered back from Spain due to war. Cabinet focuses on Samoan situation and Cheers instructions. Kautz's Samoan report read. Mataafa uprising alleged to be promoted by the German consul. A Malictoa proclamation issued. Schley assigned to naval examining board duties.
Maniza reports the transport Sheridan with the twelfth and seventeenth regulars arrived. Lieutenant Meyer disappeared on the voyage and is presumed to have fallen overboard. Berwyn notes in Reichstag an agreement with Great Britain on Samoa commission. Maprio says a marine bill to build ten ironclads will be submitted.
Richard Harding Davis, journalist and novelist famed for war stories, is reportedly engaged to Miss Cecil Clark of Chicago, daughter of John M. Clark, former Chicago port collector and Civil Service Commission president. The note hints at Davis’s London mission with messenger Jaggers and lists Davis’s career and works. In Freeport a local meeting reorganized Company M of the Sixth Illinois, forming a new unit of about sixty with Captain C. B. Eastman and Lieutenants Glasgow and Jewell.

The twenty-fifth round of the great American handicap of live birds in the inter-state association tournament concluded today. Tom Marshall, mayor of Keithsburg Illinois, who won two years ago, captured the victory. Grimm of Clear Lake Ta. finished second but missed the thirty-second bird in the shoot off.
New York April 14 Special Richard Crock testifies before the Mazet investigation committee and confirms he led the Tamany party. He says he believes the party in power should hold all offices and that his real estate firm fueled judicial sales through political influence. Moss accuses him of working for his own pocket. Crock concedes the spoils go to the party in power.
Ex Senator Tabor received a military funeral in Denver with services at the Church of the Sacred Heart. The ceremony honored the late statesman and reflected his public service.
Henry E. J. Boardman of Marshalltown Town died shortly before noon at St Josephs hospital with his wife and daughter beside him.
Sprinarand April 14. The Illinois legislature will close tonight, making the state's shortest session. In the Mahoney contested election case the senate voted to allow Mahoney to keep his seat. he is a Democrat in a largely Republican body, but a majority of Republicans say he is entitled. The Chicamauga bill passed with little opposition.
In the Quay trial on April 14 the court allowed the state to introduce all bank books except the Red book to prove the conspiracy charged. It also admitted the Red book as evidence against Quay by allowing Goldsmith to testify about its entries and their connections with the regular bank books.
M. E. Scott traveled as an early morning passenger bound for Chicago.
Published orders indicate that American camps will begin mustering out all men enlisted as regulars to serve during the war. The notice appears from Havana on April 14.
