A reader warning highlights symptoms like sharp eye pain cataracts cross eyes and morning eye discharge. It mentions eyelid sticking headaches astigmatism nearsightedness farsightedness and hearing trouble and urges consulting doctors for relief.
In Geneseo on March 4 1893 testimonials praise Dr M B Moses for eye treatment. James L Woodruff reports relief from headaches and improved reading after three years of glasses. Esther Slack says her eyes strengthened and expresses gratitude and confidence in the doctor.
In JoureT Illinois on September 12 1896 a man named B Nusbaum reports suffering catarrh for ten years and growing deaf. After three months under Dr J M Moses and consultations with several physicians who offered no relief he states he is now entirely recovered.
A Morris Illinois resident writes in April 1893 about receiving spectacles fitted by Dr. M. R. Moses of Chicago three years earlier. The patient, once nearly blind in one eye with a cataract forming in the other, expresses deep gratitude for regained sight and the life-changing aid.
A public letter from M J Jones extols Dr M R Moses for perfect spectacle service. He notes his wife’s 38 year blindness resolved to distinguish people at 10 feet and read again after treatment. Another testimonial from S Rosenberg praise cites cure of cross eyes and granulated eyelids in her daughter.
A letter dated September 16, 1893, from Thomas McAllister thanks Dr Moses for eyeglasses received August 10, 1892. He reports thirty years of sick headaches ended after obtaining the glasses and claims no headaches since. The brief testimonial is addressed to the doctor as a Dear Sir.
Four men reported lost with one hurt as a massive blaze consumes Knoxville area. The fire, fueled by a stiff wind, destroys wholesale and retail houses in Worth, Tenn. Insurance ranges up to 60 percent with losses estimated between one and one and a half million dollars. A dynamite blast at W W Woodruff & Co. caused injuries from flying debris. A mountain howitzer was used to blow down walls to stop the fire, and Chattanooga sent aid by rail.
A major hotel fire in Knoxville burned twenty seven firms including the hotel. P C Dyer the cabinetmaker died from fright on the street. Robinson of Pulaski Tenn. is missing and presumed a victim. Debris cleared as the streetcar lines and electric services suffered. An Knoxville architect received orders for eleven replacement buildings. J C M Bogle, injured by flames, may die. Fire crews and witnesses recount harrowing escapes and fatalities.
Excitement gripped Grand Forks N tenth April as rushing ice from the Red river threatened the Great Northern and Northern Pacific bridges. Workers strengthened approaches with rails and locomotives while dynamiters tried to clear jams. Eight men with pikes guarded a buffer, guiding ice cakes through a narrow passage despite a shifting stone foundation and perilous moments.
Governor Tanner sent to the senate a new board of Lincoln park Chicago commissioners but the senate refused to suspend rules to confirm nominations. House recalled judicial apportionment bills to second reading and struck out Tanner amendment. The bicycle baggage bill was killed by rule suspension refusal. Bills enabled corporations to transact surety business, authorized school boards in Marion county, and allowed osteopathy graduates to practice medicine as proposed.
The iron ore producers in the old range created the Bessemer Tion association to pool interests and stabilize prices on the Marquette Menominee Vermilion Gogebic ranges. Prices drop from 4.25 to 2.92 per ton for various ores. Standard Negaunee may bring 2.25 to 2.30.
Mississippi situation unchanged as heavy rain and strong winds persist. Flower Lake crevasse opens 1700 feet wide with efforts to seal the breach. Lulu cut off except by telegraph. Ration day at Rosedale shows stark poverty among destitute Black refugees. many disappointed at missing relief rolls. Helena river level down two feet eleven inches. backwater steady. refugees moving there now near 3,000. Relief committees operate with no complaints as the river falls Cairo to Helena.
Hon W J Bryan was injured when the stand collapsed during a speech in St Augustine Massachusetts. About 400 attendees were thrown to the ground. Bryan was taken to a physician's office and found to have no serious injuries. President McKinter and his party arrived at Anmipelis Md aboard the Drilphir with a presidential salute.
Word from Porto Rico claims natives of Yanco and Adjuntas have risen against Spanish rule. Madrid reports this claim false. Nelson Morris of Chicago denies entering Indiana sugar beet industry. Mrs Theurs EE Abbey denies engagement to wealthy Englishman. Town supreme court defines swipe as stealing. General Comes plans to render Cuba useless to Spain. A Northampton college case reveals Caro line Belle Nealley, a Smith College graduate, involved in break-ins. Representative Simpson adopts golf stockings after bicycle ties. St Louis tax for a free library bill fails at polls. India famine fund in Britain reaches at least £787,400. John T. Bressler of Nebraska named Union Pacific government director. KE. S. Dean brokerage barred from mails.
