In Springfield April 4 the Illinois House debated a conspiracy bill with Merritt and Dixon trading charges. A letter alleging Merritt’s ties to the Knights of the Golden Circle triggered heated exchanges. The amendment was defeated and the bill moved to a third reading amid chaotic debate.
