Miners Convention Opens in Shamokin With 500 Delegates
The tri-district convention of United Mine Workers of America opened in Shamokin opera house with over 500 delegates. John Mitchell was unanimously chosen permanent chairman after John Fahy nominated him. The opening featured welcome by Chief Burgess William Thomas and remarks on pensions for disabled miners. Delegates set committees and routine business. discussions on strikes and joint conferences continued.

Body Found Near Priest's House in Missing Nell Brislin Case
A decomposed body found beside the road near the Priest's House ends the search for Nell Brislin who had been missing for weeks. The deceased, 65, left the Laurytown almshouse March 2 and was believed visiting Buck Mountain or Eckley friends. Wilkesbarre Attorney Wins Insurance Case in Scranton
In the United States circuit court at Scranton a jury awarded P. M. Thornton of Wilkesbarre four thousand twenty eight dollars and thirty seven cents after an eleven day trial against Security Insurance Company of New Haven and the National Assurance Company of Ireland. Thornton had taken out six thousand dollars in household and library insurance on April 2 1901 the night his house burned after he moved to his mother in law’s. The defense contended the claim was not honest.
