Miners in Convention debate strike policy and funding
About 1,400 delegates representing more than 350,000 United Mine Workers met in Indianapolis to decide on a general sympathetic strike in support of Pennsylvania anthracite miners. Mitchell urged a plan funding the strike, while most delegates favored not ordering a strike. An adjournment was granted for an anthracite caucus to express opinion. Police arrested Andrew Braznitsk i in Hazleton on riot and assault charges from Monday. Atlantic City notes mention Mr and Mrs Joseph Birkbeck of Freeland, Pa., quietly marrying at a hotel and receiving congratulations.

A party of Philadelphians inspected a 1000 acre tract near White Haven they own to transform into the largest ice preserve in the state with potential to ship about 300000 tons yearly. The venture would also become a summer resort with a hotel once rail service is built. The company will be Mountain Spring Water Ice Company.

The annual report of Luzerne County Prison warden George J. Llewellyn shows 1,002 prisoners kept last year with meals costing eight and seven-tenths cents per day. Wilkes-Barre city contributed 346 prisoners. Free land 12. Hazleton 58. Hazle 16. West Hazleton 2. Of the inmates 743 were married and 359 single, ages 8 to 80, charged with crimes from murder to profanity. Nine arrests were for murder and one execution occurred. The list includes almost every nationality and every occupation except editors and printers. one reporter also broke the law.
