A reader argues that only rubber provides wear in boots and shoes and warns that substituting other materials lowers durability. The note claims every 1 percent drop in rubber quality reduces durability by over 20 percent and promotes Buckskin Rubber Boots sold by Hal, Orson Stroh, s M. 8, BH. Hayes.
Ex congressman Brumm calls attention to eight hour work day higher pay for firemen and reinstatement of strikers. He details brutal heat and heavy shifts, and predicts amicable future relations with a three year commission settlement. Arguments wrap up with lawers for miners and operators and Darrow for miners. Increase for soft coal miners approved at 12 to 22 percent with amicable soft coal outcome easing anthracite tensions.
Local miners urge the Coal Strike Commission to raise anthracite wages to match the new soft coal scale. They argue anthracite workers labor harder and face greater danger, warranting equal pay for services.
The Simvelle company staged Romeo and Juliet at the Academy of Music Reading on January 22 1903 drawing over 1000 paid at matinee with strong night business. John A Mishler Academy of Music manager reports the attraction is OK in a signed telegram praising the show.

A proposed legislative bill to repeal the county almshouse law would remove Schuylkill County’s three Democratic poor directors who earn 1500 dollars a year. The act, framed by Representative Snyder and endorsed by county judges, would appoint three salaried trustees by the court to run the almshouse, removing politics from care.
On Saturday the court refused to recognize the Socialist party ticket of Wilkesbarre township saying it was un-American. Judge Lynch required the constitution of the Socialistic organization and ruled the charter not in accord with the spirit of the government. Other objections to Democratic and Republican candidates were heard and most were overruled.
Joseph Greshko the applicant at 133 South Centre Street in the Fifth Ward had been omitted from the official clerk of courts list. Attorney John M. Carr represents him and seeks correction. The count in Freeland rises to 61 from 60 as reported Friday.
Citizens listed are drawn to serve as jurors for March 9 16 and 23 with names including Boyle Davis Freeland Sachs Dougherty Fritzinger Foster Birkbeck Shovlin Oswald Treible Richards Lesser Swith and Rehrig plus curative tablet claim and Minnesota flour advertising notes. The notice mentions E W Grove signature on each box and a 25 cent price for the tonic.

Crescents receive an Atlantic City invitation to the seashore next summer.

Clifton Base Ball Club hosts a Grand Opera House night February 15 with tickets 15 and 25 cents. February 17 features Division 19 AOH ball at Kreutz’s hall with 50 cent admission. February 22 Leo Columbian Literary Society at the Grand Opera House with 10 15 and 25 cent tickets. February 23 Y M C A presents The Minstrel of Capri operetta at the Grand Opera House with 25 35 and 50 cent tickets.
