Fake strike reports denied by national committeeman
National committeeman Fred Dilcher told a Scranton reporter that strike stories in the anthracite region were fake and originated with space writers for metropolitan papers. Only the national executive board or national officers may order strikes. President Mitchell is in Louisville for AFL meetings and matters are with the national committeemen. Mother Jones overstepped authority if she gave the interview. The Mine Workers aim to prevent strikes, not cause them. Operators indicate willingness to honor pre settlement terms, and the United Mine Workers convention will meet in Indianapolis in January with coal operators expected to attend to settle wages for 1901. Dilcher warned the agitation harms employer-employee trust and expressed regret at its continuation. The Pittston No. 10 strike was resolved with Patrick Quinn reinstated after a discharge caused the trouble. DeWitt's Little Early Risers are advertised as effective liver pills.

First to Salute the Alabama by a Spanish Vessel
The Spanish steamship Trurak Bat from Bilbao became the first foreign vessel to salute the United States battleship Alabama anchored at Cramps shipyard. The Trurak Bat dipped its colors as it passed to Port Richmond, while the Alabama did not return the salute per naval custom.
