State Normal School offerings and new facilities in Freeland
The State Normal School in the Delaware Water Gap region offers regular normal courses plus music, education, art, drawing, watercolor, and a full college preparatory department. Free tuition is available under a new state law. boarding costs $3.50 per week. Improvements include a new gymnasium, electric light plant, recitation hall, and refreshed dormitories. School Board Cuts Expenses and Appoints Teachers
The borough school board reduced the supervising principal’s salary and closed two schools for 1902 03. It named teachers with monthly salaries, including Edward Hanlon as principal and George McLaughlin as vice principal. The board also approved course changes and book purchases, authorized tax collection, and set opening day for Sept 15. Two lawsuits allege hanging of Mrs MacIntyre effigies and damages.

A Shamokin dispatch reports Dr. Thomas Hickey of Shamokin died of consumption, linked to milk from Fountain Spring Miners Hospital cows in 1895. He and Dr. Joseph Gallagher of Freeland once drank hospital milk, then tested the cows and found tuberculosis.

Water Tank Bursts at DS&S Yard in Dlifton
A large water tank in the DS and S Railroad yard at Dlifton burst its hoops yesterday flooding No 2 portion of town. The tank wrecked itself and three chickens in Engineer Sima's coop were drowned. Mrs John Powelick, 65, was buried at St Ann's cemetery from her Woodside home.

Daniel J. Sweeney, a Bliss mine watchman for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Company, was found dead near Hanover close to Warrior Run. He was killed by multiple blows, with a five inch skull wound likely from an iron bar or axe. Three suspects, Joseph Smith, Ignys Shukos, and Michael Yushko, were arrested after witnesses saw three men leave a saloon and follow him. they are held without bail.
