Dakota Conventions Hold First Day Actions and Appointments

Sioux Falls July 5 committees on rules prepared a report and split into twelve person judiciary and twenty five person legislative groups with fifty other committees to study constitution matters. A seven member delegation may visit Bismarck to divide territory property. President Edgerton may appoint many convention members and most work will occur in committee. The convention ratified Republican caucus officer nominations, with an ongoing dispute over a seven member conference committee on boundary lines and two rival seventh standard parallels to decide. I Fancher was named permanent chairman as credentials were adopted and the oath of office taken. A seven member rules committee was appointed and the session adjourned to tomorrow.

Olympic Convention reconvenes at Onyeta Washington

The constitutional convention reconvened at 10 o'clock this morning. The credentials report was adopted and Woolman seated despite returns showing Travis led by ten votes. Travis, unaware of his own victory, will have his case heard when he appears. Chief Justice Hanford administered oaths, and John P. Hoyt of Kings County was elected president.

Constitutional Convention Opens in Helena Montana

The Montana Constitutional Convention met at 1 o'clock in Helena. A permanent organization was formed with Hon. W. A. Clark as president and W. H. Todd as chief clerk. Seventy-three of seventy-five members answered roll call: thirty-nine Democrats, thirty-nine Republicans, two scattering. No further action of importance was taken.
