Soil Conservation district seeds Hubam clover across acres

Terrace lines were laid for Kurt Eichholz's 4500 foot project in the Lower Palo Alto Group. Otto Spaeth seeded Hubam clover on about 12 acres as part of a rotation plan in the Southwest Doss Conservation Group. Emil Riley expanded Hubam acreage to at least 75 acres on Tivydale Road in East Spring Creek Group. About 50 miles of terrace lines were built by Soil Conservation Service engineers under J. J. Thomas in the Albert Conservation Group+. Construction will begin with a local contractor for large channel-type terraces and fall legume cover crops before October 15. Adolph Kneese in East Spring Creek planted 44 acres of Hubam clover with a district drill. Edgar Gold in Northeast Group seeded 45 acres, following Enos Rode and Richard Laurence's District seeder. Trials show deep-rooted clovers can greatly improve soil intake, with some fields reporting 400 to 500 percent gains after clover growth.
