Stonewall Church Becomes Parish After Half Century Growth
The Stonewall community grew from about 20 Catholic families to a functioning parish. Groundbreaking in 1945 followed land donation by Mrs. Henry Burg family, with dedication in 1946 led by Archbishop Lucey. The parish later built St Thomas Hall in 1961 and the church became a parish in 1966 with Rev. Joseph Hildebrand as first pastor.
