Religions of the Presidents Reflected in Voter View
The piece notes that if Harding wins in November he would be the first Baptist president, Cox would be the ninth Episcopalian, and lists the religious affiliations of past presidents. It mentions eight Episcopalians, six Unitarians, six Presbyterians, four Methodists, two Reformed Dutch, and one Disciples of Christ, with Washington as Episcopalian and Jefferson as Unitarian. It also covers the public interest in a president’s church, while recounting Poehler’s death in a Cherokee doctor’s office from heart trouble at 29, after serving in the 90th Division. Interment was at Kuykendall Cemetery. Rev. Schroeder led services.
