Fredericksburg schools opened the 1948-49 term with 1096 students enrolled as late registrations arrived. Public school records show 711 in the first eight grades and high school total 266, with St Marys adding 385. Lions Sponsor Time Clock at Fredericksburg High Stadium
Fredericksburg Lions Club funds and reports the installation of an eight foot diameter electric time clock on a new scoreboard at Fredericksburg High Stadium. Two Collisions Mark Labor Day Holidays Here
Two collisions with extensive vehicle damage occurred in the city during Labor Day weekend with no serious injuries. The Sheriff's Department and State Highway Department noted no other accidents on busy highways outside the two city crashes. Rev Alvin Durst and Mrs Walter Jenschke collided at North Orange and W College St Saturday. Sunday night Alvin Golds car driven by Hubert Klein and another car driven by Francisco Guevara collided at the intersection.

Work Begins On Llano Street Highway Bridge
Dismantling of the old Town Creek bridge on Llano Highway started Thursday. Rubin Wallendorf of Collins Construction Company of Austin supervises the project with barricades set to reroute traffic on North Llano and Schubert streets. The removal should finish by Saturday night, with about sixty days to complete the new structure. The replacement bridge will feature a 44 foot right of way and 5 foot sidewalks on each side, about 100 feet long, with the deck four feet higher than the old bridge.

Fredericksburg High School coaches revealed the Hillbillies starting eleven for the 1948 season in a non district opener against San Marcos at the FHS Lighted Athletic Field Friday at 8 p m. Key lettermen return on both sides as Billies seek second win in four meetings, while Rattlers aim for a third straight over Fredericksburg. The roster lists four returning lettermen in the line and three in the backfield plus a full starting backfield of Grona, Dittmar, Grobe and Dietrich. A large pep squad and band will accompany the game with San Marcos sending their own performers.
