Mrs William Ottmers has returned from a two weeks visit at Gan Antonis and resumed her daily activities.
Miss Norma Kolmeier of San Antonio visited with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kolmeier, sharing time during a family gathering.
San Saba and Coleman counties voting on local option to legalize beer sales remained dry after incomplete returns. San Saba County led to a 61 vote deficit with about ten to twelve boxes unreported. overall defeat estimated near 100 votes.
The Fredericksburg community meeting scheduled for Monday night was postponed due to a conflicting political meeting. It will now be held Monday November 12 at 2 pm in the courthouse with all farmers urged to attend to learn about AAA programs and government aims. Cc. B. Johnson.
Near Buda Texas a car thief and a deputy sheriff exchanged shots in a pistol duel to prevent the theft of an automobile from J. O. Martin of San Antonio. The thief fled on a freight train with his companion, who was later captured by San Antonio police atop the moving cars as the train entered the city. Deputy Sheriff C. B. Allen led the pursuit. Dr. Leon Zwiener returns from San Antonio where he attended the Graduate Clinic in Optometry led by Dr. A M Skeffing ton. He cites the widened scope of eye correction and the new methods to detect physical troubles through the eyes, noting near sightedness from excessive visual strain and the eye as a barometer of the body.
A steel laden truck crashed four miles past Boerne on the San Antonio Highway in heavy fog. J C Christian of Houston died in the flames while Awel Usry, also of Houston, was rescued but fatally injured. Julius Bowman, nearby, pulled Usry from the burning truck. The Greer truck lines vehicle was en route to San Antonio.
The American Legion plans an Armistice Day event at Peter's Hall next Sunday night. A local talent program will feature songs dance numbers and a black face sketch titled Adams Love Apple followed by a dance. A program copy is in another section of this issue.
Mr and Mrs Alex Arbelger observed their silver wedding anniversary Sunday night November 4 with a large gathering of relatives and friends. Refreshments followed by pleasant conversation, with wishes for many more happy years together.
W. H. Wood, 41, a boot company salesman, fell 15 feet from river embankment while chatting with employer C. Lucchese and M. Keys Sunday afternoon. He died instantly from a broken neck after landing in the bed of the San Antonio River.
Center Point Texas reports a Ford sedan with Denton Stevens and Lewis Storms overturning south of town. Stevens suffered serious cuts while Storms escaped without injuries.
Dallas November 6 apparent defeat of all eight proposed state constitutional amendments is shown in incomplete returns released at midnight by the Texas election bureau. Governor candidate James V. Allred leads over D E Wagoner as 118,194 to 3,710 with 145 counties reporting and seven complete.
Government cattle purchases will resume in Gillespie County within a week. Gillespie County has been allotted 1000 head, per information from G. W. Barnes of College Station who oversees Texas buying.
Col. Petsch celebrated his return to office noting deeper gratitude for loyal supporters who helped him win after a late comeback. He credited friends for the victory and expressed goodwill toward his opponent Mr. Holekamp, saying their prior supporters remained his personal friends.
Mrs Obed Wahl returned from a visit to her mother in Santa Rosa. Mr and Mrs Nacob Heep and Mr and Mrs Theodore Heep attended the funeral of Geo Kneupper in New Braunfels. Pupils of Mrs Alfred Schnelle’s music class will give a recital at the High School Auditorium Friday night November 9 with no admission charges.
Mrs. George Winkelmann of Hye underwent a tonsil operation. Blanco County voters elected J. H. Clark as County Judge King Casparis as Sheriff and Tax Collector B. J. Stubbs as District and County Clerk F. J. Werner as Treasurer Sid Stevenson J. J. Stewart R Liesmann and Bindsie as commissioners.
The 1934 General Election in Gillespie County drew intense public interest. Key races included Representative Holekamp versus Col Petsch and a thriller County Judge contest among Dietel Neffendorf Kneese Lange and Wieser. Other contests covered Sheriff Tax Assessor Collector Treasurer and County Commissioner races continuing on page 2 column 4.
Ford dealers from Blanco Comfort Johnson City Junction Kerrville Llano Marble Falls Mason and Menard attended a traveling service school at Advance Motor Company on November 6 and 7. The event is one of 32 such schools in Ford districts to train mechanics by factory representatives.
The Standard reports the marriage of Levi W. Ottmers and Emma Bure at Albert Lutheran Church on Thursday November 1 led by Rev Paul Leonhard. Attendants included Erna Burg maid of honor with Lydia Hitzfeld Hilda Olfers John Burg and Albert Ottmers as sides.
A massive blaze in Uvalde engulfed the Schwartz and J. C. Penney stores, dating from the grocery section of Schwartz. Damage ranged from 60 000 to 90 000 dollars as flames and explosions wiped out stock and left the shops unusable.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nebgen of Stonewall, bringing congratulations from family and friends.
Eugene Ottmers Ss has updated his residence from San Antonio to Henderson Texas, reflecting a formal change of address on file.
Alfred Hartmann, a Gillespie County livestock farmer, visited with his wife Mrs. Hartmann and daughters Misses Hilda and Vera Hartmann, plus Victor Moeller of Fredericksburg, as guests of Ed Schuch and family early this week. Mr Hartmann is Mr Schuch's uncle.
Producers who have not signed vouchers for pelts of condemned sheep and goats are urged to attend to this matter at once. Receipts from the relief office for pelts delivered remain in the county agent's office until vouchers are signed to avoid accumulations and speed payments. A. L. Petermann will remain in his office this week to assist.
Frederickburg relief admin allows delivery of dry pelts from condemned sheep and goats to the former R. M. Lewis Warehouse on the railroad tracks after fifteen days. Owners must bring the original sorter permit. pelts must be thoroughly dry to avoid loss. A. D. Stahl, Relief Administrator.
Three Mexican youths named Jesusa Jose and Lucio Gutierrez and a 14 year old white boy were arrested by Sheriff Ed Bier schwab of Kendall County while working on a truck farm south of San Antonio. They allegedly tried to break into Mrs. Cole’s home near Boerne and were driven off by a shotgun blast. The Mexicans remain in Boerne jail while the white boy is with a San Antonio probation officer. Nearby burglaries and thefts have been reported in Boerne.
R O Kinne of the Rincon settlement died this morning from severe burns suffered October 9 when gasoline exploded as he cleaned and repaired a tractor.
Mr. Paul Stelling and family John and George Heep John Jenschke and family and Mrs Harry Reichenau attended the funeral of Mr George Kneupper at New Braunfels on Wednesday.
The Fredericksburg National Bank will observe Monday November 12 as a holiday for Armistice Day and will be closed that day.
The Southern District of the Lone Star Trail Association met at Hotel Nimitz for a luncheon with members from Mason Fredericksburg Boerne and San Antonio. Attendees included S W Cooper and Judge A O Newman who led resolutions mourning R M Hubbard and supporting Judge W R Ely’s Highway Commission appointment. The group urged immediate construction of the trail from San Antonio north and set the next meeting for November 20 in San Antonio.
The relief office says live goats will be provided to clients for fresh meat. Recipients must promise to kill the goats and return the pelts as proof the agreement was fulfilled.
Brady Texas November 1 McCulloch County residents oppose the 9 million dollar Centennial appropriation proposed in the Legislature. The Brady postmaster and county Democratic chairman A B Reagan says the Dallas location is the disliked factor and the county's opposition is voiced in a letter to Coke Stephenson speaker of the House.
Mr and Mrs Eddie Ottmers spent Sunday at San Antonio visiting local sites and returning home with a relaxed day trip mood.
Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Stebling and their son, joined by Mrs Frank Seffel and Mrs. R. J. Peter, visited in San Antonio last Thursday, reporting a brief family gathering and local sightseeing.
